I set up a music still life which students used as a jumping off point for subject matter.  Students created these artworks after studying Cubism.  Each student chose a contemporary or historical cubist artist to study and create a work related to that artist before creating this work. We also created small mixed media collages before creating this work combining photos of the still life, drawing, painting, and using other music and patterned papers. 

 

I am pleased with how many students were very successful. And, how students maintained or developed their own voice while creating interesting work that fulfilled the assignment.

 

Not everything is perfect.  Some need to crop or reformat- and definitely there are different levels of hand skills and conceptual synthesis.  But, thinking and skill are developing nicely.
